BLUE CORNER BOXING CLUB

HISTORY

September 2003
Ed Williams, Ryan Esau and Ingo Schubert meet for the first time. Ryan and Ingo were only looking for a
place to work out. Ed was generous enough to offer his empty house as a training facility.
Soon more people started showing up to practice and a decision needed to be made. Ed, Ryan and Ingo sat
down together and decided to start a boxing club. They would name it “Blue Corner” Boxing.

February 2004
Blue Corner Boxing Club is officially registered with Boxing B.C. and the Canadian Boxing Association.

Summer 2004
Ingo, a Level 1 coach, was joined in the summer by coach Dale Gatin.

Fall 2004
Yves Schubert was the club's first official boxer. He competed in the B.C. Golden Gloves and came in 2 nd place
– a great achievement for Yves and the new club.
After the Golden Gloves match, Yves was scheduled for four more matches that never took place
– cancelled events and no shows by his opponents. Disappointed with all the preparation that
he had made and having no matches to fight, his interests diverted in to other areas.
Now he spends his time studying music – the guitar.

Matthew “Young” Wittick was also scheduled to box in several matches, with the same results – no shows by his opponents.

November 2004
Ingo completes his Level 2 coaching certification.

January - April 2005
The club moves to Heritage Valley Resort, until they require the space and we are asked to move.

April 2005
Inder and Gurmit's Mom know someone that has a self-defense club on Clearbrook Road. The club also looks at the possibility
of training at Straiton Hall. Ingo, Ryan and Dale decide to move the club to 2451 Clearbrook Road .

April 29, 2005
Blue Corner Boxing Club enters three fighters at the Fight Night in Burnaby.
Only two boxers, Jordan Soegard and Elias Fernando Trias, ended up competing that night.

June 2005
Ingo begins his Level 3 coaching certification, and Dale receives his Level 1 coaching certification.

August 2005
Ryan received a call. The building on Clearbrook Road had been sold and the club was asked to move out.

October 2005
Ingo calls Vern Wright about training at Straiton Hall. The club moves to Straiton Hall and starts training again
at the end of October. The club lost many of its members between August and October,
when there was no training facility available. The club took a hit financially from the reduction of fees during this time.

December 2005
Ingo, Ryan and Dale – “We dedicate our time, and are committed to keeping the club running, as we believe
that it is a great sport for members of our community to be involved in.
One can benefit both physically and mentally from the vigorous training – and the confidence in oneself
and their abilities that spill over in to every other aspect of life.”

November 2009
(updates coming soon)

“We invite the previous members of the club to return to training, and invite new members to also come and train with us.”
